The BBC has officially announced that Sherlock will be returning for a special, followed by a three-episode new season!!
“A special, plus a new series of three episodes - it's a record-breaking run!” says series co-creator, writer and executive producer Stephen Moffat. “Of course, it's far too early to say what's coming, but we're reasonably confident that the very next thing to happen to Sherlock and John, is the very last thing you'd expect...”
“Series Four! At last!” adds co-creator, writer and executive producer Mark Gatiss. “It's always special to return to Sherlock but this time it's even more special as we're doing... a Special! Not only THAT, we'll then be shooting three more episodes which will take Sherlock and John Watson into deeper and darker water than ever before. The whole Sherlock team are terrifically excited to return for four new adventures. The Game is on - again!"
Last season had Sherlock Holmes (Benedict Cumberbatch) return from “death” and reteam with his partner, Dr. John Watson (Martin Freeman). Watson married Mary Morsten (Amanda Abbington), whose secrets brought them into conflict with a powerful businessman who proved a match even for Sherlock. The shocking resolution of this conflict would have sent Sherlock into exile, if not for the sudden, televised reappearance of Moriarty, whom Sherlock believed dead. Whether or not Moriarty's reemergence will be the subject of the special remains to be seen.
Shooting for the special will begin in January, with the sew season filming later in the year. Are you excited to have a BBC Sherlock special plus three new episodes? I know am very excited!
