Toad to appear in Days of Future Past

It's no secret that Toad has been missing from the 'X-Men' line-up since his debut appearance in the original movie. But it looks as though everyone's favourite amphibious mutant is back in 'Days of Future Past'. And he'll be played by none other than Evan Jonigkeit.

In an interview with MTV, Evan Jonigkeit revealed his 'X-Men' role… and explained that he's excited to be on board.

"It's a really incredible thing to be a part of," he said. "['Days of Future Past'] is huge and really exciting. I was so stoked to be working with all of these people. It was a really crazy experience."

Of course, 'X-Men' fans will remember Toad's one and only appearance in the original film… where he was played by none other than Ray Park. And Evan Jonigkeit explains that this new incarnation will set up how the original Toad came to be - sort of like an origin story.

"I read a lot of the comic books," he said. "I found out the storyline of my character, who is Toad. 'X-Men' fans will know that Ray Park played him in the first movie, so it's a generation story of how he came to be. It's really cool."

Obviously it sounds as though Toad will be appearing way back in the '70s… and it seems to suggest that we'll see Michael Fassbender's Magneto begin to assemble the Brotherhood of Mutants. But will Sabertooth make an appearance?

When it comes to Toad, it looks as though he may have gotten a bit of a makeover in 'Days of Future Past' as Jonigkeit explains that he's going to look a lot different this time around.

"The aesthetics of the character are much different, and I'm not really allowed to say a whole lot more than that," he said. "It's darker. I would say it's a darker tone."

Of course, it could be some time until we get a glimpse of Jonigkeit's Toad… and unless he appears in any upcoming trailers, the May 22 release date seems like a very long way away. But will Toad really have changed that much? How exactly will he look as a young tadpole? It looks as though we'll have to wait to find out.
