"The Protector of Concord Dawn" introduces the formidable Mandalorians into the Rebels fold in a way that will not disappoint fans of the warriors or the Clone Wars series. Also, taking the show into a dark, new direction.

The show starts out as our heroes must find a new hyperspace route due to the ever-clenching fist of the Galactic Empire. In order to get these routes, they must first go to Concord Dawn, which is a known Mandalorian (a warrior culture belonging to beloved characters Boba and Jango Fett) outpost and get permission from their leader. However, not all is as simple as it sounds, even when they bring Sabine (a known Mandalorian) into the mix to help.

If you're a fan of the Clone Wars series, you know that the Mandalorian arc was left on somewhat of a cliff hanger at the end of the fifth season. This episode begins to explain what happened in between both series. In addition to a startling revelation about Sabine's heritage within the Mandalorian culture. However; if you are reading and up-to-date on the Kanan: The Last Padawan comic, you will also benefit from seeing the connections.

Overall, this episode was a satisfying set-up episode for this particular plot in Rebels. It's dark, exciting, and visually stunning to watch. I give it an A.
