It looks as though all the death and destruction caused by Superman in 'Man of Steel' may have had a point after all… as Lex Luthor uses it against him in 'Batman V Superman'.
It's one of the most controversial aspects of Zack Snyder's 'Man of Steel' - the death and carnage that surrounded Superman's climactic battle against General Zod. But were those civilian casualties avoidable? Did the end really justify the means? It seems these questions will be raised by none other than Lex Luthor in 'Batman V Superman'…
According to Kevin Smith's latest Fat Man on Batman podcast, the destruction of Metropolis will play an important part in 'Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice'.
"I guess it's all integral to their next plot," said Smith. "Like the word is Lex is very like, 'We can't trust this Superman, because look what he did to our city'."
Of course, Smith could just be speculating here… but it certainly tallies with some of the behind-the-scenes photos we've seen from the set. Depicting mourners gathering around a broken statue of Superman, it looks as though there might be some civil unrest when it comes to the actions of everyone's favourite Kryptonian. And Lex is bound to use that to his own advantage.
Obviously, the other thing to consider is that this falls in line rather nicely with the idea of a more modern, socially-powerful Lex Luthor. Let's face it - as the head of a far more modern LexCorp, he's in a perfect position to take social media by storm with his public opposition of Superman. And I can't help thinking that in this instance, a well-orchestrated PR campaign may prove to be more effective than Kryptonite.
