In an interview with IGN, Chris Pratt talked about the speculated plans for the Guardians franchise to team up with, The Avengers and tackle evil on Earth. Pratt, told IGN that he has not been officially briefed on such plans:

“That’s speculation. I haven’t heard that. No, no one’s ever discussed it with me,” he said.

Pratt then went on to say that he’d rather keep things in the cosmos then in Clevend:

“I think like the universe itself it’s best to expand outward. I don’t personally – and it’s not up to me, I’ll do whatever they want me to do – I don’t want to see the Guardians defend Cleveland, Ohio. We’re cosmic man. I want to be in space.”

I personally think that Infinity War is very likely to include the Guardians of the Galaxy and I think the scope of that movie would make such a crossover make plenty of sense. But i agree that they shouldn't just do a cross-over all willy nilly, since the Guardians are "cosmic man".

Guardians of the Galaxy 2 is scheduled to film in Atlanta in February. James Gunn recently tweeted a picture to mark finishing the first draft of the script.

And Pratt speaking to Digital Spy, gave high praise for what writer/director James Gunn has shown him so far saying it brought him to tears. Pratt, said it was so good that Marvel didn’t have a single note for Gunn when he presented it to them. Now that’s impressive.

Guardians of the Galaxy 2, scheduled to open in 2017.
