At long last, the first, epic trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy is available to the masses, and it's packed with cosmic fun.
We've been waiting for months for a proper trailer (meaning not a low-quality Comic-Con leak) for director James Gunn's venture into the galactic side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and Tuesday night on Jimmy Kimmel Live we finally got our wish. Marvel dropped a two-and-a-half-minute bomb of comedic action on us all, and if these 150 seconds are any indication, this flick is everything we were hoping it would be.
The trailer begins with Star-Lord (Chris Pratt) on an ill-fated solo adventure, then takes us through a rundown of each member of the Guardians and their cosmic "rap sheets," making it clear that these aren't people you mess with. From there, we get a whirlwind of spaceships, gunfights, an argument over a walkman, and glimpses of Nebula (Karen Gillan), The Collector (Benicio del Toro) and much more. They even made time for a nice middle finger joke, and who doesn't love that? I wish we could of seen some of the villains in it though.
And sadly, we don't really get to to hear any Guardian besides Star-Lord speak in the trailer, but the rest of the gang still packs plenty of personality into the footage.
Guardians of the Galaxy hits theaters on August 1st. Here's the official synopsis:
From Marvel, the studio that brought you the global blockbuster franchises of Iron Man, Thor, Captain America and The Avengers, comes a new team--the Guardians of the Galaxy. An action-packed, epic space adventure, Marvel's "Guardians of the Galaxy" expands the Marvel Cinematic Universe into the cosmos, where brash adventurer Peter Quill finds himself the object of an unrelenting bounty hunt after stealing a mysterious orb coveted by Ronan, a powerful villain with ambitions that threaten the entire universe. To evade the ever-persistent Ronan, Quill is forced into an uneasy truce with a quartet of disparate misfits--Rocket, a gun-toting raccoon; Groot, a tree-like humanoid; the deadly and enigmatic Gamora; and the revenge-driven Drax the Destroyer. But when Quill discovers the true power of the orb and the menace it poses to the cosmos, he must do his best to rally his ragtag rivals for a last, desperate stand--with the galaxy's fate in the balance.
