Marvel Studios officially announced today what had already been established both online and by director Peyton Reed: Ant-Man has begun production.
Additionally, the studio announced a number of new cast and crew members, some of whom had been rumored in the press but many of whom are entirely new to today's announcement.
Set for release in the United States on July 17, 2015, the film is directed by Peyton Reed and stars Paul Rudd as Scott Lang/Ant-Man, and Michael Douglas as his mentor Dr. Hank Pym and Evangeline Lilly as Hope Van Dyne, daughter of Hank Pym and reportedly Lang's love interest.
That much we knew. The film also includes outstanding additional cast including Corey Stoll, Annie's Bobby Cannavale, Michael Peña, Abby Ryder Fortson, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes's Judy Greer, The Dark Knight's David Dastmalchian, Wood Harris, Iron Man 2's John Slattery and Gregg Turkington and multi-hyphenate T.I.
That there has been a good deal of recent discussion of Marvel's policy that nobody can play more than one role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe likely suggests that Slattery will reprise his role as Howard Stark, and may bolster recent rumors that a flashback sequence featuring Stark, Peggy Carter, Alexander Pierce and Hank Pym will figure into the story.
Ant-Man is due in theaters on July 17, 2015.
