Hulu: Temporary Price Drop for New and Returning Subscribers
In the ongoing war of digital streaming services, only one will emerge the victor... maybe?
That might be Hulu's hope, at least, as the company has quietly shifted to offering its least expensive streaming plan in an attempt to bring in new subscribers and keep existing ones. The price drop appears to coincide with a recent price hike over at Netflix, where standard plans will increase from $9.99 a month to $10.99 a month. By comparison, Hulu's cheapest streaming option (which includes commercials) will now be $5.99 a month.
According to Variety, a Hulu representative said the service's new offer is intended to concur alongside the upcoming fall TV season, but the timing definitely seems like a bit more than a coincidence.
The streaming battle against competitors like Netflix and Amazon Prime has only just started to heat up in terms of attempts to acquire subscribers, and Hulu's earned considerable notice recently. Not only did Hulu nab eight Emmys for The Handmaid's Tale this year, it also secured rights to several recent and older series, many of which had previously ended over at Netflix.
That all being said, this change is only temporary for Hulu subscribers; the special offer will only be available through Jan. 9, 2018, at which point the $7.99 monthly fee will resume.
Will this new price change lure you to Hulu?
