The BBC has released a pair of exciting trailers and a bunch of new images for the upcoming Doctor Who Christmas special, “The Husbands of River Song.”
The yuletide episode not only marks the return of the Doctor’s (Peter Capaldi) wife Melody Pond River (Alex Kingston) for the first time since her last appearance in “The Name of the Doctor” over two years ago, but also features guest-starring turns by Matt Lucas (Pompidou) as Will Nardole and Greg Davies (The Inbetweeners) as King Hydroflax (the Head guy).
First off, here is the Next Time Trailer attached to the end of the Season 9 finale, “Hell Bent”:
I don’t know if you guys noticed this, but there’s a scene that harks back to “Silence in the Library” in which River takes the Doctor’s hand while they make a run for it, only the shelves are filled with items instead of stacks of books. This time, however, the Doctor seems none too happy about that: “Stop holding my hand. People don’t do that to me.” Brilliant.
Now, here's the TV trailer:
Looks like Steven Moffat’s promises of a fun romp for the upcoming Christmas special will pan out, because this looks like a boatload of fun! I just love the look of delighted excitement on the Doctor's face when seeing the Missus again. I think Capaldi's Doctor and River look absolutely perfect together. As a refresher, here’s the synopsis again:
It’s Christmas Day on a remote human colony and the Doctor is hiding from Christmas Carols and Comedy Antlers. But when a crashed spaceship calls upon the Doctor for help, he finds himself recruited into River Song’s squad and hurled into a fast and frantic chase across the galaxy. King Hydroflax (Greg Davies) is furious, and his giant Robot bodyguard is out-of-control and coming for them all! Will Nardole (Matt Lucas) survive? And when will River Song work out who the Doctor is?
All will be revealed on a starliner full of galactic super-villains and a destination the Doctor has been avoiding for a very long time.
