Sinister Six Secrets Revealed: Sony Pictures has released a new video featurette (via MTV) discussing the secrets of the Sinister Six that will be revealed in The Amazing Spider-Man 2.
We know that Electro, Rhino and the Green Goblin will be featured heavily in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, but will the full team come together?
“You’ll see some tentacles,” said director Marc Webb. “You’ll see some wings.”
This certainly seems to hint at the introduction of Doctor Octopus and the Vulture to the Amazing Spider-Man universe, but Webb did not confirm.
Jamie Foxx hinted very heavily that we’d be seeing his character, Electro, returning as part of the villainous team.
“All I can tell you is when they get to choosing people, Electro is electricity,” Foxx said. “So he can never die, he’ll just go to a different place.”
Andrew Garfield compared the coming together of the Sinister Six to Marvel’s The Avengers.
“The Avengers was such a great movie,” Garfield said. “What about The Avengers for villains? Spider-Man is kind of there on the fringes, but it’s about how a band of villains gets together. That’s an awesome film. That’s a film I’d be excited to see.”
If we assume that Amazing Spider-Man 2’s villains – Rhino, Green Goblin and Electro – will be returning, and that wings and tentacles are more than just Easter eggs and do signal the inclusion of Doctor Octopus and the Vulture, that leaves one spot on the team open. Venom is one possibility, but he’s getting his own film. Sony may see Sinister Six as an opportunity to cross promote for Venom, or they might want to save him specifically for his own film. It’s possible that the Lizard, the villain of The Amazing Spider-Man, could return. Kraven the Hunter is being used The Amazing Spider-Man 2 video game, but he is cast as an ally to Peter Parker rather than an enemy.
Sinister Six will be directed by Drew Goddard. No release date has been officially announced, but possibly as soon as May 2018.
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 comes to theaters May 2.
And Sinister Six And Venom Movies To Be Released Before Amazing Spider-Man 4:
The Amazing Spider-Man spinoff films for Venom and the Sinister Six will be hitting theaters before The Amazing Spider-Man 4.
In an interview with Den of Geek, producers Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach said that plans for the franchise have changed and that The Amazing Spider-man 4 will not be released in 2018. The news came up when the producers were asked about plans for The Amazing Spider-Man 4, which March Webb, director of the first three films in the series, will not be directing.
“Before we know what we do with Spider-Man 4,” said Tolmach, “we’re going to do Sinister Six, Venom and Spider-Man 3. There is going to be a lot of crossover in those movies. So we’re just not at Spider-Man 4, because we still have a whole other Spider-Man movie and two other movies. So we don’t know yet what [Spider-Man 4] is going to be”
Tolmach did confirm that a Spider-Man film will be released in May 2018, it just won’t be The Amazing Spider-Man 4. That means that May 4, 2018 will likely end up being the released date for either Sinister Six or Venom.
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will arrive in theaters on May 2.
