Every year, exactly one week before Thanksgiving, I make a TON of gingerbread cookies, and my entire family (including every one of my six siblings. Yes, you read that right. I have SIX siblings.) put up our Christmas tree and commence in decorating said tree.
Now, we do have a load of the traditional glass sphere ornaments, but we also LOVE to incorporate our love of Fandom into the tree decorating. For every glass ornament you see, you'll also find two Ninja turtles or an occasional zombie.
I like to think of it like Christmas clothing - yes, it's nice to have the traditional Nordic deer print ugly sweater year-after-year, but it's also nice to shake it up with a nerdy personalised one every once in a while.
So, why go fully traditional? Your tree should be unique like you, so add a little geekiness to your Holiday with these 7 (mostly) simple DIY holiday crafts based on our favourite Fandoms.
1. (Easier) DIY Custom Death Star Ornament
I love Star Wars. I've been watching the movies since I can remember, and have more Star Wars merch than I can count on two hands. This death star ornament caught my eye immediately. Get the full tutorial at 50 steps 100 steps.
2. DIY Golden Snitch Ornament
What could be a more fitting craft for a Potterhead than a real life Golden Snitch for your tree? Get this relatively simple tutorial on Tiny Apartment Crafts.
3. DIY 221B Baker Street Sherlock Ornament
Okay, not an ornament, but it was too adorable (and easy) to pass up. Get this tutorial from Geek with Curves.
6. DIY Ultimate Fandom Holiday Wreath
Can't decide what Fandom you want to display this year? Why not mash them all together with this awesome wreath tutorial from Our Nerd Home.
7. (Harder) DIY Death Star Ornament
Another death star. I know I've listed one above, but if you want to take it a bit further and add some light details to your ornament, you can follow this fiddly tutorial from Instructables.
